Altar Servers 
Altar Servers assist the celebrants at daily and Sunday Masses, weddings, funerals and special events. Public, private and parochial school students from grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 are invited to receive instruction.

This team welcomes, encourages, and shares faith with expectant parents in preparation for the sacrament of Infant Baptism.

  Bereavement Ministry
This team assists people in their ability to deal/cope with their loss through an understanding of the process of grieving. Contact Fr. Ray, 201-384-0101, to register. 
  Spanish Bereavement Ministry 
This group meets as needed. Please call Delia, 201-387-8420. 
  Cornerstone 
This 27 hour retreat program is held in the parish annually, with separate overnights for men and for women. Includes presentations, discussions, sacramental reconciliation, and Mass. For more information contact Fr. Ernesto at the Rectory Office

CLOW - Children's Liturgy of the Word 
All children from primary through middle grades are invited to attend Liturgy of the Word with Children to hear God's Word proclaimed at a level they can better understand and appreciate.
Team members prepare and preside at Liturgies of the Word with children during the 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon Sunday Mass. Team members meet together for planning and serve occasionally throughout the year.Contact Chriss Gallagher at 201-338-8026 or cfg81564@optonline.net.

  Choir - Music Ministry Contact: Lisa Marciano, Director of Music, 201-384-0101 
Adult Choir

Choir music is an essential component of outstanding liturgy. Members join their talents to lead the community in prayer. The choir meets twice weekly, at 8:00pm on Wednesday evenings in the balcony of the church for rehearsal and serve at the 10:30am Sunday Liturgy. Choir also sings at special occasion liturgies. 
Cantor

Cantors lead and assist the congregation in song. Instruction is given to anyone interested in serving. Contact: Lisa Marciano, Director of Music, 201-384-0101 
Children's Choir

Lift up your voice in song at the 9:00am Sunday Mass. Participants from grades 5-8 practice on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. (except July and August.) 
Contemporary Choir 

Singers and instrumentalists of high school age or older sing at the 12 noon Sunday Mass, practicing on Thursday evenings. 
Filipino Choir

This choir sings monthly at Tagalog Mass and rehearses the last two Sunday afternoons of the month in the lower church. 
Spanish Choir 

This choir rehearses on Monday evenings in the lower church and sings at the weekly Spanish Mass
Spanish Children's Choir 

Children from Grades 5-8 practice on Tuesday evenings and alternate with the Spanish Choir at the Sunday 12:30 Mass.

  Couples for Christ
Couples for Christ A Christian Family Life renewal program under the office of Family Life Ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark presents a 13 Sunday course annually.

  Special Ministers of the Eucharist or Eucharistic Ministers 
Ministers distribute the Eucharist at weekday and Sunday Liturgies. In addition, they may distribute the Eucharist to the sick and the terminally ill both at home and in the hospital. Eucharistic Ministers are trained in accordance with Church Law and the principles of Vatican II.

  Filipino Apostolate 
This group ministers to the Filipino families in the parish. They hold discussion forums and participate in fund-raising activies for St. John's. They hold a volunteer appreciation night in October. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month. 
The Filipino Association of Bergenfield meets on the first Sunday of every month after the 5:30 Monthly Mass in Tagalog

Parishioners are scheduled to present the bread and wine for all weekend and Holy day Masses. Contact Gloria at 201-327-9037.

  Legion of Mary 
Legion of Mary A lay organization honoring the Blessed Mother, the Legion of Mary meets weekly to pray together and perform apostolic work. Members visit ill or elderly parishioners who are homebound, in hospitals, or in nursing homes. They assist the Social Concerns Committees and sponsor an annual Pilgrimage to The Immaculate Heart of Mary Shrine in Washington, NJ. Meetings are held each Saturday at 9:30am in the lower church.

Lectors 
The voices of our lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord at Liturgical worship. Preparation for this ministry includes scriptural reflection and practical experience. Members of this ministry proclaim the Word of God at Mass and other liturgies.

  Liturgy Committee 
This committee plans the major liturgies of the church calendar. Also helps to clean and decorate the church altar, sanctuary, and sacristy. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 8:15pm.

  Parish Pastoral Council Board 
The Pastoral Council is comprised of parishioners who advise the pastor on matters affecting the St. John's community. 
  Pastoral Concerns Committees 
This groups meets to coordinate for the annual Recollection Day for Eucharistic Ministers as well as the annual Communal Rite of Anointing of the Sick.

  Prayer Groups
  • Mary, Queen of Heaven Charismatic Prayer Group 

  • This group meets weekly to pray together. They hold small group discussions. Meetings are held on Friday evenings 8:00pm - 11:00pm in the Parish Life Center basement. Santo Nino Healing is offered on the 3rd Friday of the month.  
  • Padre Pio Prayer Group 

  • Celebrates the canonization of St. Padre Pio. Meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the lower Church. Coffee hour follows from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more about Padre Pio check out the The Perfect Capuchin
  • Spanish Prayer Group 

  • This group meets weekly to pray together. Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm in the Parish Life Center Basement.

Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation, Engaged Encounter 
Catholic Engaged Encounter Married parishioners share faith and instruction with couples preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage. Training and preparation meetings are held during the year. 
Married couples from St. John's discuss with engaged couples the many areas of importance in creating a loving, Catholic marriage.

  Retreat 
Overnight retreat experiences are held yearly. It is an effective renewal process which calls together members of the parish. 

The Men's Retreat is held at the Cardinal Spellman Passionist Spiritual Center in Riverdale, The Bronx, NY during the last weekend of May. For information, call Matthew at 201 387-7187 or 201-384-1111, or Gerry at 201-384-9550.

  Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children 
Initiation Team 
Priests and parish RCIA team members meet weekly from September through April to prepare adults and teens to enter the Catholic Church or complete their Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist). Sacraments are celebrated on Holy Saturday night at the Easter Vigil and during the Easter Season. To become a member of the team or part of the preparation program, contact Msgr. Rich at 201-384-0101.

Social Concerns Committees 
These groups meet monthly to develop and coordinate various efforts to raise awareness of different social needs and help to alleviate them. 

  • Food Pantry - Assist in monthly and semi-annual parish food drives. 
  • Committee for the Homeless - Assist monthly in providing a meal for the Homeless and volunteer to supervise a shelter overnight in rotation. 
  • The Giving Tree - Assist in annual effort to collect Christmas gifts for poor families. 
  • Respect Life Ministry 

  • This group encourages Pro-Life consciousness within the Parish. They organize collections of clothing and food for shelter for women and infants. 
    Baby Showers are held, as needed, on the 1st Saturday of the month (excluding July and August) in the Lower Church Room #1 and the Youth Room, 1:30pm - 4:00pm. Additional on-line information is available on the Respect Life web-site of the Archdiocese of Newark.

Stewardship Board 
What we sacrifice to God through His Church will be returned to us many times over. The Lord instructs us to bear witness to Him by returning a just and fair portion in support of His Church, not because we must, but because God is alive within us. A tithing parishioner gives 5% of gross income to our parish and 5% to other charities.

Ushers 
Parishioners who greet and assist people as they arrive for worship, assist in financial collection at the Offertory, and help organize the reception of the Eucharist.

As in the Acts of the Apostles, we are called to be a people with an indescribable and glorious joy. Yet like Thomas, many have doubts about their faith and ability to make all things new again. Youth Ministry 
Youth Ministers share the faith with teenagers in the Youth Group through peer ministry, prayer, retreats, service, Catholic Christian formation, fellowship, and socializing. They supervise Sunday evening meetings, discussion nights, weekend retreats, trips and other social gatherings. Call Mark 201-384-2675 

Junior High Youth Ministry 
Assist Youth Ministers with chaperoning of trips, supervising volunteer projects and sharing the faith with young people in grades 6 to 8. Call John 201-384-3601
